Irwin, Jackrabbits earn spot in Sweet 16 with win over Syracuse

There’s a Wahpeton Huskie about to play in the Sweet 16 in women’s basketball.

Former Wahpeton High School standout Tylee Irwin started and scored 3 points Monday as No. 6 seed South Dakota State beat No. 3 seed Syracuse 74-64 on the Orange’s home court in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Irwin and the Jackrabbits outscored Syracuse 39-25 in the second half to advance to the program’s first ever Sweet 16 appearance.

SDSU will next play No 2 seed Oregon at 10 p,.m. CST on Friday in the Portland, Oregon, regional.
